Moved Vault to new server: failed

Post by steve907 » Sat Sep 04, 2004 3:05 pm

We bought a new server and I'm trying to move Vault to it.

The old server runs Windows 2000 and v1.21. The new server runs Windows 2003.

I did a SQL backup of sgvault on the old server and a SQL restore of that backup on the new server.

I then installed v2.05 on the new server. It detected the sgvault database and indicated successful conversion.

I cannot get into Vault now. When I run the Admin tool or the client, the error message is:
"Unable to connect to http://127.0.0.1/VaultService. No server was found at the specified URL. ..."

Do I need to set permissions somewhere?

Thanks much.

First things first. Can you verify the Windows 2003 Server is correctly configured to host a Vault server?

From a browser on the server itself try the following URLs:

http://localhost/vaultservice
http://localhost/vaultservice/vaultservice.asmx

If there are some problems here, you might want to look at the KB forum for articles which apply to your situation:

I believe there are a couple articles related to Windows 2003 server, but this one comes directly to mind:

Yes to all of the issues in the "Installing Vault Server on Windows 2003 Server" article. IIS was installed and working.

My problem turned out to be that I did not have the Vault subweb in IIS set up to allow anonymous access. I didn't realize this was a requirement, but apparently so.

My next problem is that all my licenses seem to be de-activated and I get an error message when I try to re-activate them.

How should I address that?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, in Vault 1.x, the licenses need to be de-activated before the move.

Do you happen to still have the old server available? Since Monday is a US holiday, the fastquickest thing to do would be to:

1) Restore the current database on the original machine (if it is not already there)
2) Deactivate the licenses in the Admin Tool
3) Backup the database
4) Make the move to the new machine
5) Activate the licenses on the new server.

If you do not have the old server available, I'll help as best I can.

BTW, since you are moving servers, are you also upgrading to the latest version of Vault?
