What edition should I install on my Windows 7 Professional?

Post by SeanZhu » Thu Oct 07, 2010 6:24 pm

Hi. I installed a Vault Trial Version 5.0.4.18845 64 bit on my Windows 7 Professional machine. I have an Visual Source Safe 6.0 database on my local machine as well.
When I tried to handoff VSS database using VSS Username and Password, I kept getting a message said
"The path C:\srcsafe_i2iTracks does not exist. Please verify that IIS APPPOOL\VaultAppPool has Full Control of the directory.
Click Here for some tips for configuring VSS database connections."
I clicked into the tips link, and it told me that I have to install a 32 bit version Vault because VSS is 32 bit. Since my Windows 7 is 64 bit, can I install a 32 bit version Vault?
And also according to your tips, I may "have to configure IIS 7 to allow 32-bit applications", and I also tried that trick by turn "Enable 32-bit Applications" to "True" (Sounds like a work around to me! :D ) and next time I run http://local/vaultservice/admin, it only generates a bunch of debugging errors like the following.

Code: Select all

Server Error in '/VaultService' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could not load file or assembly 'DragnetControlsLib, Version=5.0.4.18845, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

I am confused of all these :( , I am new to your product, can you provide some help on my issue please?

Thanks,

Sean

The Vault Web service needs to be able to communicate with the VSS database through the SourceSafe automation component. Since SourceSafe is a 32-bit app, the Vault service needs to run as a 32-bit app as well.

Uninstall the 64-bit Vault server, then download and install the 32-bit Vault server. Yes, you can install 32-bit apps on 64-bit Windows 7. You do need to enable 32-bit apps in IIS, but it sounds like you've already done that.

Let me know if this does not resolve the problem.
