SOS 5 and Visual Studio 2010 crashes

Post by jong2000 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 10:17 am

I recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2010, and more recently (last week), we upgraded to SOS 5 on the server and SOS 5.0.3 on the clients (from version 4.2). SOS runs fine on the clients in standalone mode, but after we updated each Visual Studio project to use the SOS 5.0 client plug-in, we are getting repeated crashes of SOS while in VS2010, although not on every project. When accessing an SOS function from within VS2000 we frequently get a message as follows:
"Your source control plug-in caused an exception or reported a fatal error. Source control integration will be disabled until Microsoft Visual Studio is restarted or you change your source control plug-in selection."

After the message box for this error is dismissed, VS2010 hangs and must be killed.

For projects for which this occurs, it does not happen every time, but it will eventually happen within an hour or so of continuous work.

Can anyone help us resolve or work around this problem?

Thanks.

What types of projects are you working with?

Is there a specific operation that causes the crash, or does it appear to be entirely random?

In the SOS GUI Client, enable logging under Options->Logging->Enable IDE Logging. After the next crash, send me a copy of the client log as well as the SOS Server log. The SOS Server log is called log.txt and is in the SOS Server directory on the SOS Server machine.

Also -- I'd suggest selecting the Verbose logging mode for the IDE log.

All of the projects are VB.net projects. Some are windows forms projects, and others are class libraries.

There is no particular operation when this occurs, although it is usually a checkout operation, particularly an automatic checkout by VS2010. Once this occurred when I was renaming a file from within VS2010.

I will enable the logging and send you the results.

Thanks.

Have you still been experiencing the crashes? If so send us copies of the logs and we'll try to determine what's going on.
