2.04 Server Installation

Post by Bob Robinson » Mon Aug 09, 2004 2:52 pm

I would like to upgrade from Sourcegear Vault 2.02 to 2.04. In considering the upgrade, I have several questions.

1) Do I need to disconnect all users prior to upgrading the server?

2) Will 2.02 clients be compatible with the newer server?

3) Do you have a step by step written to facilitate upgrade other than

which highlights more how to install.

We'd highly recommend it. You can stop the aspnet_wp.exe process in the Task Manager. If a user happens to be connected, the session will end, but when Vault Server is available again they can reconnect.

Vault 2.0.2 clients can connect to the Vault 2.0.4 server, but to take advantage of bug fixes, we recommend updating clients at the same time as the Vault Server.

Here's information on upgrading:

Upgrading From Previous Versions
It is recommended that you backup your Vault database prior to an upgrade. This can be done from either the Vault Admin tool, or the SQL Enterprise Manager tool.

To upgrade from a previous installation of Vault, simply invoke the new installer, and choose the same options that were selected when Vault was previously installed. Program files and configuration settings will be automatically updated to reflect the upgrade. Note that the server installation will not delete your database unless you explicitly tell it to.

You may also safely uninstall Vault first, and then install the upgrade. As with installation, an uninstall will not delete your database unless you explicitly tell it to.
