Folder Compare Problems

Post by treehousetim » Sun Dec 06, 2009 2:15 am

Hi,

When running a folder compare, I have files that when double-clicked to open a diff are identical - or at least the program tells me they are.

I'm running in "Exact Match or Simple File Equivalence Testing" mode.
All 3 checkboxes are checked, although I've tested it different ways too.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Have you tried the "Exact Match or Ruleset-based..." mode? Did that help?

What type of source files do you see the problem on? Are their suffixes listed
in the "Simple File Equivalence" list?

If none of the above helps, please post a screenshot (either publicly here or
send an email to support@sourcegear.com) and I try to help narrow it down.
(If you do email, please include a link to this thread in the body of the email.)

Hi,

I am also facing same problem.
Does it consider file timestamp while doing folder comparison (that could be possible reason), if it does then how can we ignore it?

Thanks,
Gurpreet

I don't look at the file date/time when comparing the individual file pairs
within the folders; it's too easy for them to be fabricated.

Have you tried the "Exact Match or Ruleset-based..." mode?

Can you tell me something about the types of files that would help me
understand what's going on?

Hi Jeff,

I am using "Exact match or Ruleset based..." mode only.
I am comparing Flex (.as and .mxml) and PHP (.php) files.

Thanks,

It'd be helpful if you could tell me all of the Ruleset settings that you have for those
types of files and maybe give me an excerpt from a pair of files that illustrates the
problem.

Could you send an email to "support" at "sourcegear.com" with this information?

On the About Box there is a "Support..." button. That will bring up a dialog with
a bunch of debug info. Save the contents of that to a file.

Put that file and one or more pairs of the problematic files in a tarbarll/zip file
and attach it to the email and mark it to my attention in the subject line.
Then I can take a look at everything and see what's going on.

Thanks,
