I have 2 project trees with same structure on my local harddrive. One came from SOS:GetLatestVersion and the other resulted from copying from a CD. Whenever I try to open the .dsw file in VC++ for the one I copied from the CD, the SOS client connects to the server and claims to be downloading filelists for every project (over 100) in my workspace. Also, the file icons are grayed in VC++, as if I would have to check them out in order to edit them. Is there a way I can make SOS leave me alone for local projects?

I'm assuming the workspace you copied from CD was bound to source control at some point? It appears the workspace and project files still have the source control binding info within them which is telling Visual Studio to try to connect to SourceOffSite. You'll need to manually remove the source control binding information from the workspace files.
