Crystal Reports merge on get latest version

Hi,
checked out and edited several Crystal Report files. Later did 'Get latest', rebuilt and made check in.
Probably rpt files were automerged and so corrupted/truncated. VSS usually suggested to leave file as is iin such situation.
Any way to overcome this or did I do something wrong?

p.s, when opened solution 'from source control', i.e file->source control->open ...

not because of SOS, but Visual Studio(2008sp1) crashed, and the solution wasn't closed single time after 'get from source' was done. VS restarted but message box popped up: invalid source repository 111.222.x.x:Z:\path_with_spaces\. Had to get solution from source again
