VMWare
Do you currently support installing Vault in a VMWare environment?
Re: VMWare
We will support users installing on a virtual machine, but you need a machine with fast disks and lots of RAM. I could see it being good for just a few users, but if you have a lot of people, then you are going to see some performance problems. We use VMware here for testing, but only a handful of people are connected at any one time and the database is very small.

Re: VMWare
Does our configuration make any difference on whether your opinion of the virtual?
Basically, we have 23 developers all running their own environments, and a SQL server hosting the code. I believe our Vault server is only hosting the web piece. How would a virtual work in this scenerio?

"all running their own environments"
----Do you mean each one has their own development machine and maybe they use a virtual machine on their computer to help with their development and they have the Vault client there? Or do you mean each one runs a Vault server?
"SQL server hosting the code"
----Vault's databases won't collide with your other databases. If all the databases are on the same machine, then its performance really depends on your resources and how much each is handling.
How well a virtual scenario works or doesn't work is going to depend on a lot of factors. Plus, what I consider "good" might not be what you consider "good." Basically, a virtual machine adds an extra layer of overhead. You can run fine if you are prepared for it, but it's not going to be as fast as a comparable setup that isn't a virtual machine. Virtual machines are really great for recovery though. It would probably be best if you tried it out to see what you thought of it.
