So SQL server 2008 had to be completely uninstalled and reinstalled.
I've pasted and re-attached sgmaster.mdf and sgvault.mdf from the new sql directory.
The problem now, I'm assuming, is that the user accounts don't exist anymore.... do I need to reinstall vault? will that overwrite the current vault db?

Re: restoring the sourcegear users after SQL reinstall
also wanted to mention that all the system databases are all the new default ones. I'm not really sure how to restore the original MDF files but I do have them. I'm assuming that these have all the original security and users? SQL wont let you get rid of the master file and/or import another master.mdf.
Re: restoring the sourcegear users after SQL reinstall
no ideas on this? Am I going to just have to reinstall the vault server?

Re: restoring the sourcegear users after SQL reinstall
You should just needs to re-install Vault and let it pick up the restored sgmaster and sgvault databases. The user accounts and Vault settings are stored inside these.
You don't need the old system databases (master, tempdb etc).

Re: restoring the sourcegear users after SQL reinstall
Just pasting the databases into the directory won't do it. You have to reattach them to SQL Server for them to be functional and detected by the installer. What you need to do is similar to what needs to be done when you move to a new machine:
