Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Hi,
I've just gota new computer, installed vista 64b and I can't connect to the Vault server. I get a 502 error and Fiddler tells me 2No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it ". I am trying this with the firewall switched off, I can connect via my old pc using exactly the same details through the same router. I am completely stumped - any suggestions?
Thanks

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
What's the specific error message you're getting on the client side?
Is there anything the the Vault Server log that corresponds to the failed connection? The Vault server log is sgvault.log and is in the %windir%\temp\sgvault directory on the Vault server machine

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Hi,
The exact message is
Unable to connect to http://apps.intuitivesystems.co.uk:8080/VaultService. No server was found at the specified URL. Please verify your network settings using the Options dialog under the Tools menu in the Vault GUI Client. Web Exception: Unable to connect to the remote server
If I have fiddler running it changes to
Unable to connect to http://apps.intuitivesystems.co.uk:8080/VaultService. No server was found at the specified URL. Please verify your network settings using the Options dialog under the Tools menu in the Vault GUI Client. Web Exception: The request failed with HTTP status 502: Fiddler - Connection Failed.
My attempts don't register at all on the log file on the server
Thanks

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Is Fiddler acting as a proxy? In the Vault GUI Client under Tools->Options->Network settings, see if using/changing proxy settings makes a difference.

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Hi,
I believe Fiddler does act as a proxy, I had to change the proxy settings to 127.0.0.1:8888 to allow Fiddler to pick up the request. When I don't have that set I get the first message.
Thanks

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Can you connect via a web browser to http://apps.intuitivesystems.co.uk:8080/VaultService?
Since your other machine can connect, there's something about the configuration on this machine or network between client and server that's blocking the connection.
Is anything blocking port 8080? Check your firewalls, routers, and general network topology to see if anything else might be contributing to the problem.

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Hi,
I can't connect to the standard weblink, I have tried installing on my laptop running vista 32 and I get exactly the same problem.
My old xp machine can connect fine, is there any reason you know of why the server application might refuse the same login from different computers? Although I guess that doesn't apply for different computers at my home as they'll have the same IP.
One thing I have noticed different is that both my installs on vista under the options menu have only 2 sections, general and network. My install that does work has loads more. Is there any chance I've somehow got a different version or something? The version no is the same on all though (4.1.1(18060))
Also I have been trying this with the firewall turned off on the vista machines
Thanks

So, even just http://apps.intuitivesystems.co.uk:8080/VaultService can't connect?I can't connect to the standard weblink,
Can you connect to other websites?
Are you on a home network or a business network?
If you have other computers around you, can you view them from Vista?
Could you try running your Vista Network Diagnosis and Repair Utility? That is found in your Network and Sharing Center. Look to the left on that screen for the link to Diagnose and Repair.

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Hi,
That's correct, my internet access per se is fine, I can ping apps.intuitivesystems.co.uk fine.
I am on a home network, I can see my other xp pc fine but I will test that some more. I've not tried viewing the vista laptop yet I will give that a go along with the netwrok diagnosis tool.
Just for information the soucegear link is connecting over the internet not though a vpn or anything
Thanks

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
Just let me know your results after you do the things you mentioned in your last post.
Also, could you open Vault on a machine that can connect to the Vault server, login, and go to Help - Technical Support? Then copy the environment information from there and post it here? Do the same on your Vista machine, but you don't have to worry about connecting to the server on that one.
What OS is the Vault server on?

Re: Can't connect to server - get 502 error
more info - I reset the port setting on iis on the server to 80, removed the 8080 from my url and bingo. I set it back again and nothing
I have yet to consult with my administrators about why it's on 8080 but that's not the salient point here, for some reason I can't connect to a site on 8080, I know it's not my router but appear to be common to vista, this is surely nothing to do with vault either must be an os issue.
If anyone has any ideas great if not cheers for your assistance, I'll post any answers I find
thanks
