Subfolder labels absent from history

Post by Nahum » Mon Apr 05, 2004 4:40 pm

Labels on subfolders do not show when doing a recursive history. I have tried with all actions checked and just the label action checked. If I look at the history of the subfolder with labels on it they show no problems.

Latest version of Vault.

Can you provide an example of the behavior? Thanks.

Yeah, it's quite simple really, folder structure goes like this:

$/Product
$/Product/Version1
$/Product/Version/... lots of folder at this level

I've used both the command line tool and the GUI client to label the $/Product/Version1 folder. If I look at it's history, all label's I've applied show as excepted. But a history query on $/Product does not show any labels for $/Product/Version1.

Very strange.

Ah - thanks for the example, that helps.

This was intentional - if we listed the label for every recursive item, history would contains far too many labels.

However, you can do a "Show Labels" command, and there is "Recursive Labels" pane that will show you what you want.

Cool, I'd not noticed that. Thanks, thats much easier than unchecking all those actions in the history dialog. :)

This hasn't changed. Some users label after every build, which could make History results unmanageable.

We do have feature request 9064 logged for this, however. I've added your comments and bumped it up in priority.

We'd be interested in additional information on how you would use this feature, and why you need to cross-reference Show Labels with Show History.

Hi Linda,

About cross-referencing show labels and history: I want to lookup the change history since some point in the past marked by a label (such as 'release blah'). The only way I found to do that is to go to Show Labels, note the date/time of the label, then come back to History and look it up as of that date time. It would be so much simpler if I can simply find my label in History.

I hope this clarifies things.

Regards,
Serge.
