Major Issue
This is a major issue, I can't tell you as a developer how many times I needed to make a global change and needed to search all source code for it.
Here is your advertisement, bordering on false (I would say Find in Files is a major feature of VSS), granted major is a subjective term..
Familiar features and interface. VSS users will feel comfortable using Vault. The client user interface very closely resembles that of VSS and SourceOffSite – all major features of VSS are present.

I thought "Find in files" was commonly used by our developers. However, after losing the feature on the VSS to Vault conversion, I found out I was the only one (out of 9) in our company that used the feature. Now, I do Get Lasted Version and then scan like everyone else. I still think Find in files would be nice, but it wasn't that big of an adjustment - at least for me.

find in files
this is a significant feature missing from your otherwise top-rate app... try what you suggest below on an XP box:
now, if you figure out how to search the blobs, why not make your product better, and enable searching of the file versions.
the XP find in files does NOT search code files (no .vb or .aspx files) -- try it, rename a .txt file to .vb and run a known search...dan wrote:...you can accomplish the same thing with a Get Latest on your source tree, and do a find in files from Windows.

dr_bob,
I didn't mean to give you an impression that I'm with Sourcegear - I'm not. As an end user, I'd like to get a Find-in-File feature in the product, but have been able to live without it so far. Note: I don't use the XP search facility all that often, but a $25 shareware product called Search and Replace (www.funduc.com).

Don't get me wrong - we would love to have this feature in the product. It is just that I want to set realistic expectations for when it might make its way into the product. It isn't that we don't value the feature - it is that it will be very difficult to implement because of the blob storage method, and it may take awhile before we can tackle it.
