activating SOS in VS 2005

activating SOS in VS 2005
i installed SOS after installing VisualStudio 2005. i made SOS the default SCC provider in the General tab.
however, i don't see it in VS. Tools-->Options-->Source Countrol-->PluginSelection doesn't have any choice in the drop down.
i looked at
http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic ... dio#p20787
but i found it confusing. there is no InstalledSCCProviders key under HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\SourceCodeControlProvider on my machine.
and the ProviderRegKey already exists under HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\SourceCodeControlProvider.
also in the pic on this page i don't see the new string value that allegedly needs to be created.
can someone untangled this for me please?
what is the name and the value of the new entry?
thanks much.

Which version of VS 2005 are you using? There's a personal version that doesn't allow integrated source control.

Could you post a screenshot of what you see at the ProviderRegKey that exists under HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\SourceCodeControlProvider?
Also, what OS are you using?

Another thing I wanted to add here.
If you have Vista, make sure you ran the installer as an administrator.
If you have VSS, there is a utility in there that will create the keys. Just let me know.
You could uninstall SOS, perform a repair install on Visual Studio, then install SOS again.
I could send you a screenshot of my key area and just have you recreate the same thing.

as you can see from my previous, i have XP Pro.
in the meantime i had to install VSS because i couldn't delay doing work any more.
i uninstalled SOS, installed VSS, then reinstalled SOS.
i can now select a VSS option via Tools-->Options-->Source Countrol-->PluginSelection but that's the only change i see. still can't enable SOS in VSS.
SOS! ;---)
Re: activating SOS in VS 2005
In the registry key screenshot, you are missing a path for SOS. Also, there is no entry for InstalledSCCProviders. I am attaching some screenshots that show how my registry looks. Try making it match for the SOS entries and see what your results are.
Also, what version of SOS are you using? My screenshots are from a machine that has SOS 4.2.
