Hi,
I'm having a SQL 2005 server which is configured to run with a separate Vault 4.1 server. I did a trial test for restoring DB from Vault 3.1.3 to SQL 2005 server before, got Beth's help, and finally got it to work with Vault 4.1 server correctly. Now, we want to turn this trial/test configuration to a production. So, I need to take the latest backup of Vault 3.1.3 DB (which is production ever since) to restore it to SQL 2005 server. How should i do that? I know the difference between 2 DB versions is sgmaster. If I just restore the Vault 3.1.3 DB on SQL 2005 (which is having sgmaster in there right now), I have a feeling here will be a problem.
If I need to delete the existing vault database on SQL2005 server (which is not a problem because it is a test db anyway), do i need to reconfigure the existing Vault 4.1 server before or after restoring the latest Vault db backup in SQL2005 server at all?

I'd like more information on your current configuration. Are you going to install Vault 4.1.3 on the current production machine (where 3.1.3 is running), or are you moving Vault Server and database to a new machine?

Re: Restore a Vault 3.1.3 DB to Vault 4.1 DB
Current configuration - testing setup - and will be in production with Vault 4.1.3:
Serv-sourcegear = Vault 4.1.3 server
Serv-sql2005 = SQL 2005 installed with database took from Vault 3.1.3 (SQL2000) and restored in there. Working fine, but the db is outdated.
Current production setup:
Serv-Vault = Vault 3.1.3 server + SQL 2000
What I want is:
Take the latest backup of db from Vault 3.1.3 (SQL2000) server and restore it to serv-sql2005 (testing setup). Eventually, put testing setup to production and retire the Serv-Vault (current production setup).

Re: Restore a Vault 3.1.3 DB to Vault 4.1 DB
It sounds like you're moving your production Vault server and SQL Server to the machine where you are currently testing.
To use the new machine for production, uninstall Vault 4.1.3 and drop the current Vault databases.
Restore a backup of current 3.1.3 Vault database to SQL Server 2005. If you upgraded in stages before, then you will need to do so again. Finally, install Vault 4.1.3. The installer will upgrade your database and you will be ready to use this installation for production.
Users will need to upgrade their clients, since 3.x clients cannot connect to 4.x servers.
