We have just purchased Fortress, but before I go ahead and install it, I wanted to check on the correct procedure, as we are currently using Vault Version 4.1.1.18060 and I understand this has to be uninstalled.

Before you start, back up your Vault databases, both sgvault and sgmaster.
Next uninstall Vault, but leave the databases in place when prompted.
Then install Fortress Server. The installer will upgrade your databases and install a database for item tracking, called sgdragnet.

If you have Visual Studio projects you will need to unbind them from Vault and rebind to Fortress. On your client machine, install Fortress and leave the Vault Client on the machine until you have followed the steps in this KB article:
