On a demo version (without encryption)
On a local network (for my trys) Sos is more than 10 times slower than VSS.
we are working on a 1Gb network with P4 biprocessors ...
did i miss something in optimisations ?

Do you have real-time anti-virus software on the server machine? That can affect performance:

Also -- SOS communicates with the VSS database through the SourceSafe Automation Component.
The SourceSafe Automation component can have performance problems
on dual processor machines. We've seen it affect some customers in
the past, but not everyone. Here's a link which discusses the
problem:

(note: if you follow the advice given in this article and change
the threading model, it will only work with SourceSafe 6.0c;
changing the threading model will cause a bug in 6.0d)
