SQL SERVER 2005 Express error

Aloha I am trying to install 32 bit vault server on my local machine. when I try to connect I get a message stating:

"When connecting to sql server 2005 this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings sql server does not allow remote connections (Provider: Named Pipes could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Any ideas?
