Recommended Practice for Multiple Versions

Post by danroot » Fri Mar 07, 2008 2:48 pm

We are a small contract development company. We use Vault 3.5 internally, and would like to upgrade to 4.0. However for some clients, we connect to their Vault 3.5 Server to work. They cannot upgrade at this time. My question is:

-is it possible for our 4.0 client to use a Vault 3.5 server?
-is there a recommended practice for running multiple versions of the Vault Client side-by-side?

4.x and 3.x aren't compatible.

Running two at once isn't something that we test for how well it works. What you can do though, is move the Vault 3.5 program files directory to a different location on disk and then install 4.x. Only the last version installed will be able to use the IDE integration and will have shortcuts, but the 3.5 version should run ok from where it's at.
