non exclusive checkout via visual studio client

For some reason in 1.1 I can no longer have the ability to do a non-exclusive checkout of a file in visual studio. The check box is grayed out on the check out dialog. I can also confirm that i have "always request exclusive locks" unchecked in the advanced options. Please let me know how i can restore this functionality... Thanks, Chris

Is the file you're checking out mergeable, according to the file type list on the server?

I'm dealing with some new files now in my projects like .dbml's which are not in the mergeable file types list.
