Can I use the API to change a comment?

Post by montek » Fri May 28, 2004 6:14 am

We have a strict formatting standard for check-in comments (they have to start with our internal change tracking number) and sometimes developers make mistakes (who knew?). Is there a way I can use the API to correct a check-in comment? They're always done in change sets (transactions) because we use the Pending Check-Ins through Visual Studio, but I'd like to be able to modify either.

All I can find on the subject are references to *getting* the comment, but I can't see any direct way of changing it. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to do this from the API either. We do plan to allow editing, or at least appending to comments in a future release.

Bummer! Yes, this would be especially useful. We've had countless "typos" that we can't correct--which will ultimately make our historical archive not all that useful.

Just wondering if there's been any progress on this? I routinely get asked how to "fix" these typos and problems... We are currently/still using 2.0.1.

The ability to edit a comment will be part of the 2.1 release, due in late fall.
