Label current working folder

Post by Marcel » Mon Oct 15, 2007 3:19 am

Is it possible to label the versions present in the current working file?

As I understand, labels are always applied to the latest version of all files in the selected (sub)directories. Via label promotion, labels can be changed to exclude files from the label or modifiy the version for a specific file. But most of the time (always?), we want to label the versions present in the current working folder. Because these make up the current version of the product we made the changes on. In this case, it is silly to assign a new label to the latest versions of all files in the (sub)directories, and then manually exclude files from this label and assign the label to previous versions of the file to reflect the versions in the current working folder.

FYI: we have several products sharing some part of the code using subdirectories with particular functionalities. Some files in such a directory however, are not needed in all products, since e.g. the low-end product doesn't support its entire functionality. Getting the latest versions for all files in a directory could be time-consuming and dangerous when the product should be released on short term, because these latest versions could not be working properly on the low-end product. It is therefore safer to maintain the versions of the previous product release.

This functionality is not currently available in Fortress, though we do have a feature request logged for this. I will add your "vote."

Thanks! Any ideas when we can expect this feature in a future release?
