One password for user in SOS, for all Projects

Post by przemyslaw.bok@pruftechni » Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:18 am

Hi,

Sometimes I have to change all password in SOS. This is company security politic. I use SOS 4.2 server and clients. So I have to log as every single user to every databases and change password separately. This job is very annoying.

Is any solution in SOS which enabled ones wrote password for user to all his databases.

Passwords are not created nor stored in SOS. SOS just pics up the user from VSS, and the actual user login and password is in VSS. SOS does have an individual function that the users have for changing their own passwords themselves, but that just makes the one change in VSS. You could require all users each change their password every so many days, but I don't believe VSS has a function for enforcing that, and SOS doesn't either.

I have not heard of VSS having a feature like that. You would want to check with Microsoft though or ask them to implement that feature. You could also write a batch script using the VSS command line.
