VS.NET IDE freezes on checkin

Post by aeropost » Mon Jul 16, 2007 10:49 am

Hello everyone,

I'm having a weird problem, sometimes upon checking - in a few files from the IDE, after clicking on the checkin button, the IDE freezes and I have to kill the process, open the project again and re-try. It seems to happen much more often when I'm trying to checkin several files at the same time.

It's not critical as it works after a few tries, but it is very annoying, any ideas??

Thanks

What version of Vault are you using?

Are there any errors in the Vault server log that correspond to the IDE freeze?

Do you have any antivirus software, firewall software, etc. that could be interfering with the uploaded files?

Hi, thanks for replying!

I'm using Win Srv 2003, SQL server 2000, Vault server and Vault Client 4.0.2 15802

Clients are using Norton AV 2006 but the firewall does not seem to be blocking anything...

Also... log only has "login" and "logout" entries...

You could try enabling IDE logging, to see what's going on from the client side:

Also, if you enable debug logging for the Vault Server (Admin Tool->Server Options->Logging) we can try to match up what's happening on the server and VS client at the same time.

Send the logs to support at sourcegear.com ATTN: Linda

VS.NET 2003 info: Version 7.1.6030
.NET Framework 1.1 Ver 1.1.4322 SP1
VS.NET 2003 service pack 1

Used to have sourcesafe which was completely uninstalled and then sourcegear vault client installed, server was installed fresh on a production machine.

The times in the server log in in the client log were slightly different, so it was hard to match them up.

I didn't see any obvious errors. Did you check out and check-in some files during the time in the log? Did Visual Studio hang during this time? I did see an undo checkout, which means files may not have been modified before they checked in.

How many files are in the folder of the files you are checking in? There seem to be a lot of image files. You have problems with checking in from this folder, or any folder?

There are about 170 files on the application's root folder, mostly aspx, cs and resx. There are CSS, htm and the project/solution files.

I checked 2 files out like I indicated in the post above, and then tried to check them in again, from what I see in the log, only one got checked in.

I do have a lot of image files but they are in a separate images folder and I hardly ever checkout or modify any of these.

Thanks!

Hello Lynda, any other ideas you may have so I can test? Sorry to be pressing but we are considering in acquiring a source code control solution and so far this is the only problem I've had with sourcegear.

Thanks in advance

Probably the best thing to do is schedule a remote session so we can see what's happening. I'll contact you offline and we can set something up.

Looks like a fresh install of VS.NET and Sourcegear fixed the problem, I suspect Sourcesafe tainted the VS IDE. Anyhow, now sourcegear works great, thanks for the support!
