Some annoying VS2005 client issues

Post by Glebby » Fri Jun 15, 2007 10:53 am

1) When checkin/checkout a file from within Solution Explorer context menu, or when start editing the file (automatic checkout) , the file icon is not changed in the Solution tree to reflect the file status change - only after Refresh. The tooltip and context menu are changed accordingly the status - but not the icon.

2) After every checkin I am prompted "The file has been changed outside of VS...Reload?". The file content is still the same though.

3) I did not find any option to prompt to checkout when starting to edit checked-in file like I used to work with in Vault/VSS IDE client. The checkout always happens silently as I start typing - again, even without any indication in the Solution Explorer.

1) Haven't reproduced this one yet. Will keep and eye out for this.

2) I will log a request to change that behavior.

3) Are you working with the VS 2003 compatible client configured in Visual Studio or the VS 2005 client? In the 2003 client, you just need to check your source control options in Visual Studio to make sure it's set to check out on edit. If it's the VS 2005 client, then you need to open your Fortress client and go to Tools - Options and check to see that you are working in VSS mode instead of CVS mode.

I use VS2005 client. Do you mean Tools -> Options -> "Concurrent Development Style"? I tried, it does not help.

Where can I read more about VS2003 compatible client? Does it provide the same functionality like 2005?

The VS 2005 client provides some additional functionality, such as the ability to use CVS style. As far as the ability to work, you should still be able to work fine.

Have you downloaded the latest with Fortress? A maintenance release has been posted. Here's the release notes on what was fixed in that maintenance release: http://support.sourcegear.com/viewtopic.php?t=8048

I use 1.0.1.15780.
So far I switched to VS 2003 compatible mode. Works like a charm.

I get the same issue. I'm running VISTA and it's checked out on my other laptop but the icon that shows up on this laptop is a lock. I don't know that it's checked out unless i try to do an edit and it tells me this through a message box.

I can confirm this behavior. We'll fix it in a future release.

Glebby, what type of project are you working on when you see this? I've been unable to reproduce it, so I'd like to try to narrow the parameters.
