Poord SourceOffSite Performance
We recently moved a Windows 2003 server running VSS 2005 and SourceOffSite Server 4.2 Professional one network hop closer to a group of remote developers. Since the move the remote developers have reported a marked degradation in the performance of SourceOffsite. The remote users are running v4.2 of the client. Is there something in the configuration that was missed when adapting the server to it's new ip address/location? Is there any other possible cause for the performance slow down? The server is utilizing two processors and has 2GB of RAM.
You will want to have your clients clear their client side cache. Finding and removing the *.sos files should do it (they're hidden files). Just see the link.
Also, dual processors isn't recommended for SOS, because the VSS automation component seems to have an issue with it. You will want to check our our article Recommendations for Optimal SOS performance.
