Performance issue using SoS
Hi
We are facing performance problems using SoS from a client accessing through the Internet. Our SoS server is located on one PC together with a VSS-client. The server is in no way busy at any time.
The VSS database is located on another PC on the same network as the SoS server. The two PCs are not connected to any domain.
A "GetLatest" of 28.5mb takes 55seconds through native VSS on the same network as the VSS database. The same request takes 1,5 hour through SoS from the same network. And it takes 4,5 hours from a SoS client through the Internet.
There is almost a factor 100 between the local VSS request and the local SoS request. And there is just a factor 3 between local SoS request and internet SoS request.
We would be happy for any suggestions that could help os.
Regards

It's not unusual for VSS to be faster on the LAN than SOS, since VSS connects directly to the database and the SOS Server must communicated through the VSS Automation Component. However, it does look like SOS is slower than it should be.A "GetLatest" of 28.5mb takes 55seconds through native VSS on the same network as the VSS database. The same request takes 1,5 hour through SoS from the same network. And it takes 4,5 hours from a SoS client through the Internet.
One of the main culprits in SOS slowdowns is anti-virus software on the SOS Server machine. See this KB article for info on this and other tips for optimizing SOS performance:
