Problem accessing a project whilst using the ide

hi,
i'm currently evaluating sos 4.0 set as the default source control provider with visual studio 6.0 (sp1 + processor pack) and have the following problem.

i go to open workspace and click the source control button.
this logs me into the sos server and displays a list of the projects available.
i click on the project iwant to open (i.e. A_Test_Project in your demo database)
the working folder is pointing somewhere valid so i click ok and am greeted with...
Error Accessing Source Control system. Check Installation. in a visual c++ error box.

i've tried re-installing sos but to no joy. any ideas as to what i'm doing wrong. the microsoft definition of this error is less than helpful.

Was the project added to source control using SourceSafe? If so, then the project file probably contains SourceSafe specific binding information which is causing the problem.
