Replacing a server

Post by MarkDAE » Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:35 am

Hello,

I would like to replace our old vault server (but keep the old server around (unplugged) if things go wrong)

Old machine:
Windows 2000SP4
Vault v3.1.5
MSSQL 2000SP3a with the SQL data files installed in C:\MSSQL\DATA

New machine:
Will have the same name as the old server.
Windows 2003SP1 - R2
MSSQL 2005 SP1 files will be installed on E:\MS Sql Server\Data

The KB said the following:

Do a Detach DB copy files to new machine and Attach DB
Q1: Do I have to create a sgvault useraccount on the new server?

Finally, run a new installation of Vault Server on Machine B. During the installation, Vault will prompt you for SQL Server's location. Provide Machine B's information. The install will detect the Vault database. Follow the prompts to KEEP the existing database.

Q2: Can I use the 3.1.9 installer for this or do I have to use the 3.1.5 version and then do the upgrade to 3.1.9 (or 3.5)

If you attach the database to your new SQL Server, then run the Vault Server installer, the installer will create the necessary user account in SQL Server.

You don't need to install 3.1.5 first. You can install 3.1.9, or 3.5 (due out next week) and the installer will upgrade your database.
