Try checking out a different file and compare the checkout location to the checkout location of the checked out Renegade file. Are they exactly the same?
Another thing to try is to close your client, and delete the client-side cache files reset working folders, then see if the behavior remains.

I deleted all of my cache files and then restarted the client. Those checked out files are still listed as renegade.
I checked out another file that is in the same folder as a checked out renegade file, and looked at the checkout location listed in the client, and it was identical (other than the filename).
I'm going to do a search for Renegade files, then do a get latest overwrite for all those which haven't actually changed, and a checkout (again) don't overwrite for those files which I've been working on.
