We are curently using SOS 3.5.3 to access two VSS databases, one V5 and one V6. Currently we have them on two different severs because we needed a special version of SOS 3.5.3 to access the V5 database and the two versions of SOS 3.5.3 needed to be on different servers.
Is this true with SOS V4?
SOS V4.0 and VSS V5

You should be able to access a VSS 5 or VSS 6 database if the VSS client on the SOS Server machine is VSS 6. VSS 6 clients can access both VSS 5 and VSS 6 databases, and the SOS Server using the VSS 6 API should be able to do the same.
This applies to both SOS 3.5.3 and SOS 4.0.

If you have a VSS 5.0 client on the SOS Server machine, SOS Server won't work. But if you install a VSS 6.0 client on the SOS Server machine, then SOS Server will work.
The SOS Server should also be able to access VSS 5 and VSS 6 databases if the VSS 6.0 client is installed on the SOS Server machine.
