Server to Server transfer

Post by dbirley » Wed Nov 02, 2005 1:07 pm

Forgive me, I am not a network geek -- so, for me, VSS is strictly BFM <g>! Our head network geek has decided to move the SourceOffSite from its current server to a new one. Ok, he is a good network geek, and I trust him. However in the new structure he has provided me, all the history (local and remote versions) are set to 1. Fortunately he hasn't killed the old server yet, and says he will leave it around for me until Friday (and I can still "see" it). HOW DO I RESCUE THE HISTORY??????????? (Weeping pitifully in a corner, sucking thumb for comfort).

Are you using SOS or Vault?

If SOS, that's a different forum, and I'll move this.

SOS has no database of its own -- it just connects to a VSS database. The only way to get your history back is with the old VSS database. If the VSS database was too big, corrupt, etc., your network guy may have done an archive and restore of VSS with just the latest version. He could archive and restore it again, but this time keep all the versions or the last "X" number of versions.

Consult VSS documentation on how to do this.

My mistake for posting in the wrong Forum.

I'll pass the N.G. your suggestion! Thanks.
