v4.0 Server service refuses to start

Post by Mentalist » Wed Mar 24, 2004 10:21 am

Hi,

I've got a registered copy of SOS v4 - we've been using 3.5x for a while now with no problems, but now after installing v4, the service refuses to start. I've re-started the entire system after install, uninstalled and re-installed bu to no avail...

The event log msg is :-

Service cannot be started. System.Exception: Error starting the 'SOS 4' server. Please check the server log for more details.
at ClassicService.ClassicService.OnStart(String[] args)
at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)

and this from the log.txt

24/03/2004 16:10:26 - Number of licenses configured: 10
24/03/2004 16:10:26 - Invalid SourceSafe Initialization file
24/03/2004 16:10:26 - Invalid or no databases to support.
24/03/2004 16:10:26 - Error starting up server. Stopping now....

I presume there is an .ini file or somesuch I am missing?? Any help gratefully received......

Cheers,

Jim C

You need to setup some SourceSafe databases.

These lines give a clue:
24/03/2004 16:10:26 - Invalid SourceSafe Initialization file
24/03/2004 16:10:26 - Invalid or no databases to support.
Run the Server Manager to configure databases

OR

You should be able to copy the server and alias values from your 3.5x sossvr.prp file and replace the empty values in your 4.0 file.
Go Illini!

Thanks very much - I thought the service needed to be started before I could manage it....
