SOS service does not restart

Post by rnkondek » Fri Jul 08, 2005 2:19 am

We have 35 licences of SOS classic 3.5.3 with cryptography. The SOS server runs on Windows 2000. Of late whenver we try to restart the service after addition/removal of a database or user, the service does not start in one attempt. After several attempts it succeeds though. Now, I am at a situation where it does not start even after attempting for hours, retarting the machine etc. Do you have any solution for this. Thanks in advance.

Could you send me a copy of the log.txt file in the SOS Server directory? Email it to Linda at SourceGear.com. Be sure to include the URL to this forum posting in your email.

The log file may have some clues as to what the problem is.

Hello Linda!
We've got similar problem: service startup type is set to automatic but it doesn't start, only manually. Haven't you met this problem?

SOS Server 4, Win2k server

We have had other reports of this type of problem. Sometimes when a machine is rebooted certain network paths aren't in place when the SOS Server starts. If the SOS Server can't connect to the database or to other files it needs, it won't start.

We did add a new feature to SOS 4.x to allow a pause before startup of the SOS Server. This is configured in the SOS Server Manager under Optional->Startup.

Hello!

I upgrade the server to 4.1.2 (from 4.1)
("To upgrade your Server, stop the SOS Server Service and then run the 4.1.2 installer and follow the steps it provides." )

but now the service doesnt start!!

in the log I see this:
" event type: error
event source: SosSvrSvc.net
Event category: none
event id: 0
date: 2005. 10. 11.
time: 21:42:47
user: -
computer: SSPI
Leírás:
Service cannot be started. System.Exception: Error starting the 'SOS 4' server. Please check the server log for more details.
at ClassicService.ClassicService.OnStart(String[] args)
at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)

but the service of the 3.5 is starting if I start!

Are there any error messages in the SOS Server log? It's log.txt and would be in the directory for the SOS 4.0 server.

It looks like you had a number connections, so the service started at one point. Are you still unable to start the service?

I'd like to see the entire log file. Please email it to linda at sourcegear.com. Be sure to include a link to this post.

I try again to star the service. Now I get this in the sys log:

Event type: Error
Event source: SosSvrSvc.net
Event categori: Nincs
Event ID: 0
Date: 2005. 10. 14.
Time: 22:50:59
User: -
Computer: SSPI
Leírás:
Service cannot be started. System.Exception: Error starting the 'SOS 4' server. Please check the server log for more details.
at ClassicService.ClassicService.OnStart(String[] args)
at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)

the log of the sos4 is empty

i will try to reinstall the full sos 4 server

Did you ever send me the log file? I don't know your email address, so I'm not sure I got it.

Is your VSS database on a different machine than the SOS Server?
If it is on a different machine, are you using a domain account to run the SOS Server Service (Check the SOS Server Service properties in Control Panel->Admin Tools->Services).
