Vault Launch issue

Vault Launch issue
For some of my pesky users on Windows XP, when they launch Vault v3.0.5.2833, there screen goes blank for a few seconds then Vault launches.
Although the product works fine, I was wondering if this is a known issue and if there was a solution to this.
Thanks
Tom

Not specifically on XP, nor with dual monitors in general. Are there issues with dual monitors on XP?
It's just that the few times monitor problems have been reported, they've been from users with dual monitors. Any details you can provide about the monitors, specific configuration, what exactly happens and when with the Vault client, etc., would be helpful.

Dell M992 on 3DForce MX4000 Series. NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000.
Resolution is 800 x 600.
Windows XP Service pack 1.
This is what the user experience is like. The user has a shortcut on their desktop for Vault. When they double click it, both monitors go blank (or pitch black for up to two seconds) then back to normal. I even tried to disable one of the montiors and it still happened. I also got the latest driver from Dell (March 2002 was the latest driver update).

Same problem
I am using a dell dimension 4550 with radeon 9500 pro
and have the same problem:
when launching the vault client, i first see the source safe logo and right after that the screen goes to black for a few seconds (the green power button turns orange for a second) and comes back to the source gear client.
And when running a project in visual studio, the same thing happens. but only when i have the vault client installed.
I have a dual monitor card, but use only one monitor (1703FPs tft by dell).
I have tried another videocard (single monitor) nvidea riva tnt2 agp but that gave the same problem.
I have tried both the analog and the digital monitor cable , but that did not solve the problem.
I have installed the last display drivers, and no other problems produces this error.
It looks like the display doesnt get an input from the graphic card. when i disconnect the monitor cable for a second i get the same result: the monitor goes to black for a second (the green power button turns orange for a second) and comes back.
I am running windows XP pro 2002 SP 2, Visual Studio 2003 version 7.1.3.088, Source gear Vault Client 2.0.5 (2210), the same version as the vault server.
Dell technical support said this is a software problem, so I hope you can help me tackle this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Raymond

We're not sure what the problem is -- so just some thoughts:
It could be that the screen is quickly changing to text mode then back to high resolution video. If Vault is launched directly from its VaultGUIClient.exe, this would only be happening if the .NET installation on these machines is broken.
If Vault is launched from a shortcut, perhaps the shortcut was setup to launch the program in a console, which enables full-screen text mode, and then finishes immediately (because Vault starts, and doesn't use the console).
We thought it could be an interaction between .NET and the video drivers, but
we weren't able to find anything in Microsoft's KB when we searched for screen flashing or blanking with .NET.

I tried to launch the vault client directly by clicking on C:\Program Files\SourceGear\Vault Client\VaultGUIClient.exe , so not the shortcut. but the same thing happens.
The black screen comes after the logo apears, so the program is already started, this is not in DOS mode.
I tried to remove the vault client, and then run any project, and it will not have any problem, so I don't think it is a problem between VS.NET and the display drivers.
I also tried to create a project in VS.NET that is not saved in the vault, but only on my local hard disk and then VS.NET does not go to a black screen.
So it looks like the screen only goes to black when communicating with the vault software.
Any other ideas?

Ok.
We wish we had an answer for you, but we'll have to do some more investigating to determine why this is happening.
We may not be able to reproduce it in-house, so if anyone else is seeing this behavior, please post your hardware and software configurations so we can see if there's a pattern.
