Column Name sorting

Post by Carlo Caprile » Wed Nov 24, 2004 8:11 am

Unlike Visual Sourcesafe the sort of columns (e.g. "check Outs) doesn't sort alphabetically, at same time, the column Name

I'm not sure I understand the issue. Is it that we don't support secondary sorts? Sorting by a column name should work (check out, File, Status, etc). However, if you choose Status, then File, it won't use Status as the secondary sort.

Let me know if this is the issue, so I can add your "vote" to the feature request.

I'm not sure I understand your answer... :)

In VSS, every time you sort a column (different from Name column, obviously), the Name column as well gets, automatically, sorted (grouped by each value in the selected column)

I've found that when I make the "Check Outs" column the primary sort column, the file names are sorting alphabetically until an update happens...then they all change (I think they're being sorted by modification time...although I'm not sure).

This is incredibly frusterating (since it's hard to find another file to checkout when the list is not sorted...but I like to have all the checked-out files listed at the top) So, proper support for secondary sorting would be very helpful.

We're currently evaluating Vault (v3.0.7) ...is there an option for secondary sorting that I haven't found? Or, is this a feature that will be added soon?

Thanks for any info,
-Brian

Secondary sorting isn't quite right, as you've observed. We do have a bug logged to fix it in the next release, though it won't make it into 3.1.

I'd like to add another vote for adding support for secondary sorting. I frequently like to sort by Check Outs so that I can see who's working on what at a glance. Although the implicit secondary sort in this case is by Filename right after I sort by Check Outs, upon the next update to the list, the secondary sort is by some field that I don't even have showing. The result is that the secondary order appears completely random.

Another nit - when I sort by Check Outs or Status, I never want empty fields to appear first, yet that's the default "low to high" sorting order. The result is that I always have to click twice to get the correct sort order. In SOS, the default sort order was "correct".

This is still in our bug fix/features database, but hasn't been implemented yet. I'll bump it up in priority, plus add your comments.

It's May 2008, we have version 4.0.6 (15954) and this is still a problem for us. Clicking on any folder to view files and check out status is not consistent.

1) I click on Check Outs column twice to get the non-blank users to the top. The filenames do not sort alphabetically at this point (per checkout user).
2) I click on the File column to sort, then click twice on Check Outs to get back to viewing who has what checked out, and now the filenames are alphabetic.
3) I click on another project folder, and it remembers the Check Outs was sorting descending (non-blank on top), but it forgot the secondary sort on File column that it honored in step 2.
4) Clicking the Refresh toolbar button at the top also reverts the File column like step 3.

Was this supposed to be working in 4.0.6?

This still happens in 4.1.1. I've been wanting this fixed for a long time.

It's still logged as a feature request. I've bumped it up in priority.
