SOS 3.5.3 service crashes v. frequently w/ multiple users

Our SOS service keeps terminating when multiple users try to use it. It seems pretty consistent, although it took two tries for the users to demonstrate it to me.

Anyone got any ideas?

Server: Win2k SP4
SOS: 3.5.3
VSS: 6.0c (bld 9447) - 32 bit

When SOS service terminates unexpectedly, and I find the following in the event viewer system log:

The SourceOffSite Server service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 13 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
