Feature Suggestion: Find in Files

Post by dprice » Fri Feb 25, 2005 10:05 am

In VSS, there's an option under the Tools menu called Find in Files. I really miss this functionality and I'm sure I can't be the only person that's requested this. Was there a specific reason it was never included in SOS? I would have figured that the default set of features that SOS would support would be VSS's existing feature set.

Thanks,
Derek

SOS doesn't support the Find in Files function.

SOS communicates with the VSS database via the SourceSafe automation component. There are limitations to what is available through this api, so not all VSS features are supported.

Okay - I understand this, but it seems there's a workaround here. You essentially maintain a local copy of the VSS database, so couldn't you search this for files?

Thanks,

Not really. The project tree is cached on the client side, but the database is not kept locally. I suppose if a user does a get latest on the tree he could retrieve every file he needs from the database and use Windows search.
