If the SOS Server does not start after installation, check the SOS Server log.txt file in the SOS Server directory.
You may see this type of error in the log file:
2/14/2005 9:57:45 AM - 1: Exception during Login: COM object with CLSID {783CD4E4-9D54-11CF-B8EE-00608CC9A71F} is either not valid or not registered.

This means the SOS Server is unable to locate the VSS Automation Component. See this KB article for steps to fix this problem:
