Always having to relogin: Error 500

Post by kbonnin » Fri Feb 11, 2005 10:47 am

Hello,

I've been using multi-user Dragnet 1.0.1 for several months. I notice it frequently sends me to "Error 500: The Server is unable to proces...", espeically when editing an item. It happens almost all the time with batch edit. Thought it was a timeout mechanism.

In the past few days I've had to re-login on almost every click after 5 minutes or so of non-use.

I upgraded to Dragnet 1.0.2 last night and now I can only browse my database. If I try to edit any item at all, I get redirected to "Error 500: The Server is unable...", so I'm dead in the water.

I'm going to revert to dragnet 1.0.1 and see if I can back to work. Any ideas?

thanks, Ken

Anything in the server's log? The default directory for Dragnet's log file is %windir%\temp\sgdragnet.

Yep, the dreaded "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

Code: Select all

2005-02-07 09:27:25.671 Configured Options: :    LogLevel - Quiet  LogReverseDNSLookup - True
2005-02-07 09:29:47.968 LEAF (192.168.1.103)- : Helpers::ListProjects Session Timed Out
2005-02-07 09:29:47.968 LEAF (192.168.1.103)- : Helpers::ListUserPreferences Session Timed Out
2005-02-07 09:29:48.312 LEAF (192.168.1.103)- : Server error 500 Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Full log attached. I can send you my db if that'll help.

Can you place your server's log in Debug Mode ( this is controlled by changing the Log Level within web.config from "Quiet" to "Debug" ), and then try to re-create the error?

That debug log will have more information in tracking down the problem.

One other thing comes to mind...

In the normal Event Viewer ( ignore the Dragnet one ), are their any errors related to the 500 error in the Application or System Event Logs?

Nothing at all in the Dragnet section of the event viewer, and nothing of note in any of the other logs in the Windows Event Viewer.

A couple of questions -

Is this happening for other items or just item - 2464?

Have you tried loggin in as the Admin account, and viewing that item to see if that fails as well?

Of 10 different items in my 290 active item database, of different milestones, all failed. The same was true with the admin user.

Shall I just send you my DB and you can demo it yourself?

If that is OK. It would be the fastest way to check things out.

Click on the email link below to send the mail my way.

Did you restart IIS after you upgraded Dragnet? If not, try restarting IIS. There may be some things cached that are causing problems.
